Shy World Book Club #3 My Body by EmRata

Happy Friday the 13th (I love the number 13 truly),

I’ve been really loving writing my lil book reports of my favourite reads to share with y’all. One of my favourites I just re read again is Emily Ratajkowski’s My Body which I honestly adore. She’s an amazing writer and shares her honest stories and raw perspective of her life and her body.

I really appreciate her vulnerability about certain situations and took away a lot from all her lessons. It goes to show you can be EmRata, one of the most sexy, beautiful girls in the world and still go through the same shared experiences of girlhood to womenhood, body image, sexual harassment etc. Her voice is clear and lessons are guiding and I really loved her writing style too.

14 things I learned from this open hearted book:

  1. Take good fucking care of your body since you only have one. Respect it, exercise it, nourish it.

  2. New York City seems like a way better place to live than Los Angeles. The hustle is endlessly inspiring.

  3. Being beautiful on the inside is as important as on the outside. Be a good person and good karma comes.

  4. Feeling empowered comes in many different forms and there’s not one way to be a feminist.

  5. Stop worrying so much about if people or love interests like you and more about if you actually like them.

  6. You can be smart and sexy at the same time like Halle fucking Berry.

  7. Seriously need to try a Korean spa now (women only naked spa where you’re deep cleaned).

  8. You should appreciate the relationship with your parents so much and collect more deep heart to hearts as you get older.

  9. Nothing in life will come easy or free. You have to work hard holding your head high as you keep going.

  10. Don’t ever let anyone take advantage of you or make you feel less than your worth, otherwise cut them off.

  11. It’s one of life’s greatest joys to fall in love but don’t get lost in your partner’s world so maintain your identity and independence.

  12. Always trust your gut cause newsflash your gut is right 99% of the time in life I swear to god.

  13. It’s important to reflect and feel the feelings in order to grow and glow each year so take your time.

  14. Be grateful for all your people every day, tell them you love and appreciate them often cause life is precious!

Love,
Dove
