Interview w Seconde Vintage ~ Best Curated Store in Mtl
Welcome to our inaugural SHY blog interview series to grow our community and shine a light on some amazing businesses I look up to!
When I moved to Montreal a year ago I knew I was about to level up on two things ~ food and fashion. The city is filled with some of the best of the best in terms of a food scene to explore (cafes, bars, restaurants galore). The city is also filled with so much creative energy, a wicked sense of style and the best curated vintage. I was super excited to feel inspired again, grow my personal style and get to shop literally the strictest curations!
Drumroll please…. I remember stumbling into Seconde Vintage one of my first winter weekends exploring the city along with my sister and we immediately were obsessed. The store is located on 5274 Boulevard Saint-Laurent, owned by Justine, Claudia and friends and a darling store decorated to aesthetic perfection with truly some of the best curated vintage and local designers I’ve seen. I feel like the curations of vintage clothing are a mix of trendy it-girl and timeless meant to be wardrobe staples. Seconde Vintage is the ideal gateway to enter thrifting or vintage shopping to truly level up your wardrobe with more unique pieces plus shop with more environmental consciousness.
1. Give us the 411 about Seconde. When and why did you start?
Seconde started in 2021. We were all working at different pop-ups around Montreal, and we realized we shared similar styles and a common vision. We were also frustrated with how mainstream fashion was all about high quantity and low quality. We wanted to change that. Our goal was to bring vintage to the mainstream by curating collections that would attract people who might not normally shop secondhand.
2. What are three items you absolutely need in your wardrobe?
A black leather jacket, a flowy dress, and denim trousers. They're staples that go with everything and instantly elevate a look.
3. Where are three cities you want to visit and why?
New York, Milan, and Tokyo. NYC for the vibe and the food (obviously), Milan for the fashion and classic glamour, and Tokyo for its next-level vintage scene and amazing street style.
4. What are some things you love but are shy about?
Having a crush.
5. If you could collab on a Shy World limited edition drop piece, what would it be?
Something inspired by Pleats Please—playful, unique, and fun to photograph, a piece that feels like movement.
6. Since you guys curate the best vintage ever, what's your curation of Ahe best MTL spots?
Café Olympico – Great vibes, and strong coffee
Les Étoffes – Beautiful high quality, and classic styles
Marché Jean-Talon – Best for local produce and feature great lunch spots
Molène- beautiful food in an intimate setting
Bar Bello- Well made cocktails and best staff
Love,
Seconde Vintage
