Interview w Thé Jinjin ~ your new favourite matcha pop-up
hi guys!!
miss you hope you’re having a wonderful end of summer!! three of my favourite things living in mtl are definitely: the cafe culture, the small businesses and the matcha! i love how every week there’s a new popup or event with the coolest crowd and the most creative branding/aesthetics.
one of my new favourite small businesses is drumroll please… Thé Jinjin, an asian women run pop up tea house! they pop up all around the city with amazing collaborations. you will find them at your favourite cafe or vintage store!! i’m also a harsh matcha critic and this is unreal top three level shit.
can’t wait to support their cafe opening one day soon <3
here is the interview:
1. give us the 411 about you. who is jinjin?
Jinjin stands for 津津, which means “overflowing liquid,” and over time came to mean “full of interest and enthusiasm.” I thought it was the perfect word to describe my brand. A tea project where I pour all my excitement and passion for people to enjoy. It also happens to be the name of my best friend since childhood, who designed my logo.
2. where are three of your absolute favourite travels and why?
• Lijiang, China – I was fascinated by the mountainous landscape. I stayed with a good friend from the Nakhi minority group, which gave me a glimpse into their daily life, floating markets, and the area’s deep tea culture.
• Ménerbes, France – A tiny town in Provence where I stayed on a vineyard and soaked up the magic of a Provençal summer.
• Porto, Portugal – It was here that I found my beloved red matcha bowl by local artist Miguel Apolinário, which has since become a signature piece at my pop-ups.
3. best advice you’ve ever received?
“Aim and shoot. Don’t shoot and aim."
4. what are some things you love but are shy about?
My parents haha. Being asian i'm very shy about expressing love towards my parents. But other than that, I'm not shy about loving anything
5. favourite local spots that you love in mtl?
For food: Café Denise.
For coffee: Café Éclair.
For shopping: Seconde
6. if jinjin and shyworld collaborated, what’s your dream idea?
A “Shy Tea” cap 👀?
Love,
Jinjin
