SHY Girl ~ Madeline Cash, author of Lost Lambs (my new favourite book)
Hi babies <3
Shy girl interviews are back and bigger and better and I can’t wait to collect more special guests to pick their brain, learn some new things and highlight their work or overall ultra-interesting lives! My absolute hyper fixation as of late has been Lost Lambs by the lovely Madeline Cash. She lives in Nyc and this is her debut novel (fiction) which is about a dynamic family. A semi-estranged midlife couple and their three daughters each going through their own unique, crazy adventures warm your heart with this story. New York Times dubbed Madeline “too clever for her own good” and I’m so so honoured to have her interviewed. Also guys, stay tuned because we are cooking up a special collab piece for Lost Lambs.
Love,
Dove + Madeline
1. Give us the 411. Who is Madeline Cash?
Madeline Cash is an industry plant!! Just kidding! I'm from Los Angeles. My mother was a hospice nurse and now gives tours of Renaissance art at the Getty. We're very close, not in a Gilmore Girls way, more in a Grey Gardens way. I went to Sarah Lawrence, moved to New York and now I live in London. Enjoys long walks on the beach etc.
2. How did Lost Lambs start and what inspires you the most?
Lost Lambs started with story and character maps. It's cliche but I'm most inspired by the great writers I admire.
3. Where are three of your absolute favourite travels and why?
Japan - I spent some time there after graduating. I went to a noise show in Osaka. I watched sea turtles hatch on the beach in Okinawa.
Romania - I flew there by myself last fall on a budget airline, rented a car and drove to "The Valley of the Fairies." It was magical.
Roadtrips - my mom and I used to take them every year to see land art and weird Americana. Salvation Mountain, the lighting rods, etc. We love to go to the Madonna Inn and get huge slices of cake.
4. What do you think are your biggest messages through your book?
We can change imperfect systems.
5. What are some things you love but are shy about?
I like to eat cookies in bed but my boyfriend doesn't like crumbs. I have a few "guilty pleasure" tv shows like 30 Rocks which I like to watch in bed while eating cookies.
6. If you could collab with Shy World on one product, what would it be?
A petting zoo. All lambs.
7. I adored the story so much and can confidently say it's my new favourite fiction novel. Which character was the most fun to write about?
Miss Winkle :)
8. My sister and I loved to "pretend cast" actors for the family in a hypothetical film (manifesting Lost Lambs movie)... who would you cast?
You're in luck there...! More will be revealed soon. I think Alexander Skarsgard would make a great Paul Alabaster. * omg that’s perfect casting I am literally obsessed - dove *
